There are interesting concepts here which certainly deserve to be explored, but most of the works are dry and only scratch the surface of the ideas that have inspired them. The most important thing, though, is to be inspired by interesing ideas - rather than creating pieces that are pretty but mute - so at least they have that.

For Serrano, it seems to always be as much about the reaction to the piece as the piece, and as such was always more of a means than an end, and artistically suspect because of that - and that only. Few have really looked at shit the way Serrano does in his "Shit" series, and so this is new, interesting, able to be seen as a piece of art rather than a photo of a pile shit. A room full of such photos, though, is a bit overwhelming. Of course, that is probably the point, but it is a crappy point (sorry) and one that has been done too many times already.

In these and in his re-presentations of propaganda films, Snyder is focused on the materiality of information - both how it can be molded to fit one's ends and how it exists not just as ideas and images, but bits of celluloid and silicon. This interrelation of the diverse pieces of the exhibition is what ultimately saves it from being a little too varied and sparse, and eventually allows it to live up to the photojournalism guidelines quoted in "Casio, Seiko, Sheraton, Toyota, Mars": "You should have a clear idea of why you're taking the photo, what it's meant to convey."

Anderson seems to want to both express and withhold in this series of paintings in which which the decisions and revisions of the artist are evident and form both a sort of narrative and inner dialogue. They are arranged chronologically, and the series can be seen as a progressive effort to convey on canvas a space Anderson experienced in an entirely unaesthetic way.

At a time when a lot of works seem almost phoned-in, Kneebone has taken the time to think through the last detail. Ultimately, any fear or moralistic message is overshadowed by the craftsmanship and the exquisite force of its detail.

The right building allows the audience to, if desired, focus completely on the art and so disconnect from the world outside and at the same time contextualizes the art in a way that the audience comes to understand how it is a part of that outside world; the building and the art revitalize each other. Raven Row is such a building...Both the building and the Ray Johnson's pieces are serious in their professionalism and historical importance, but are able nonetheless to maintain a refreshing airiness. There is a general sense of something new being discovered in the old...Johnson is pop art in the best and strictest sense, taking images out of mass-produced daily, modern life and recombining them in ways that are completely original, undeniably artistic. It is intensely modern - unconcerned, or so it seems, with lineage or posterity. Even in a building full of similar pieces, each collage is self-contained in its shadow box.

The horrors of colonialism are presented under a punning title; cute and clean. Yet this cleanness, this simplicity leaves so much space for thought that we cannot help but reflect to try and complete the fragments of thoughts presented in the pieces, and this is not due to any facts or arguments but to the strictly artistic expression of these horrors.

The five sculptures are only part of a whole, while the floating faces in turn are each part of their own wholes. The pinchusions of colored heads against the clean straightness of the numerals and the 90 degree branches, and then the satisfying fullness of the black inner tube all matches perfectly with the space in which they are housed. The gallery is itself its own planet floating between clothing stores and the traffic, composed of any number of constituent wholes within.
